Lovin' Them Old Songs in Franksville, WI
"Them Old
Songs" is a treat for tired ears. It's
my pleasure to brag about Ron VanDenboom's collection of nostalgia. One after the other, the tunes are performed
with love.
Ron
is a natural-born singer and gifted musician. His
mellow tones, ease of gliding from note to note, and
his ability to
move from polka to country ballad are a gift. He
knows what works, and provides the listener a pleasing
variety.
Perhaps
one of the most charming attributes of this album is that the family is
involved. Everybody. Ron's
wife Joanne, mom-in-law, children, grandchildren,
and nieces. Some potential, professional
singers may well emerge within
that group. All that matters, though, is
that while they are having
fun being
included in this group project, we are enjoying every minute, too.
There
is something for everyone in this album. Ron’s
niece, Wendy, joins Ron in lovely
harmony with a sweet rendition of the beautiful hymn, “In The
Garden”.
For
the most part, this collection of old songs is easygoing.
You'll enjoy the twangy sounds of the old country ballads
like “Four
Walls” and standards like “Send Me The Pillow”.
One
of my favorites is the 60's pop ballad, “Leavin’ It Up To You”
performed
by
the younger voices of the VanDenboom family. Then
the pace steps up to “Jealous Lovin’ Heart”. Wife
Joanne and her mother, as well as everyone through
the four
generations of the family, get together to make “Out Behind The Barn”
really
come alive. Then we have fun at the “Muskego Fireman’s Dance” and
with the “Joanne Polka”.
Expect
"Sunset Years" to become a new, most-requested 50th wedding anniversary
song. It's an endearing tribute from the
children on their parents' golden anniversary.
Ron
provides much of the instrumental work, playing acoustic and electric
guitars,
the banjo, mandolin, harmonica and more. Friends
and fellow musicians Tom Brusky, Ed Hause, Bryan O'Donnell, and many
other
talented musicians come together to support the creation of this
delightful
music.
This
is truly a family affair--a family you’ll want to be part of… that’s
how
it makes you feel. Maybe I can sing
along on the next album? Oh, how I love them old songs. And you will, too.
